World-Class Leadership in 7 Actions

You could fill a stadium with all of the leadership books that have been written.
... Could it all be distilled to 7 things?
Here are the simple things:
(1) Know thyself.
Knowing and being transparent about your own strengths and weaknesses enables you to understand others and is foundational to teamwork.
(2) Don’t be the hub of the wheel.
If you are doing, you are not leading.
(3) Define clear roles.
Define roles and hire the people that are the best suited to those roles. Remember trust and character sit above technical expertise.
(4) Connect them to something greater.
Connect their work to their personal values and goals as well as to the success of the team and organization.
(5) Prepare them.
Give them the tools, training, coaching and resources to do their job and then let them succeed or fail. But, don’t coddle them.
(6) Develop them.
Give them timely, honest feedback about their performance.
(7) Listen.
These are simple things. But life gets busy. Having a structure to ensure these fundamental things are done well and done consistently always makes a positive difference.
