Meditation and Mindfulness: one of the daily practices that will help you with your personal growth.
Meditation and Mindfulness: It seems like everyone is talking about mindfulness and raving about the benefits of meditation. Therapists, yoga instructors and health care practitioners are prescribing meditation as part of a healthy lifestyle.
But what does it mean to be mindful and how does one meditate? You can choose to be mindful anytime you like because it is about paying attention: paying attention to the taste of your food or the wine or noticing the blue sky and the icy snow on the rooftops.
Part of becoming mindful is learning to meditate. And if you can make meditation a practice that you follow regularly, you will find that you actually learn to slow down, pay attention better, breathe and become more aware of your surroundings. There are many ways to meditate such as simply sitting in a comfortable posture and noticing your body and your breathing and just allowing yourself to be.
Meditation has been around for many years and has been proven to be a stress-reduction technique. Meditation takes many forms. Buddhists do “walking meditations”. There’s transcendental meditation which The Beatles made famous in the 60’s. There are apps to help you meditate, track your meditations and even a headband (Muse) that can track sleep and brain patterns while you are meditating.
The point is that meditating can help you introduce calmness into your routine and life. It can help reduce feelings of anxiety. It is also a mindfulness technique as it helps you become aware of your body, your breathing and your surroundings.
Mindfulness is a helpful practice to grow in your life. It helps you slow down and become aware of yourself in the moment. Slowing down in the moment causes you to think more about your surroundings, what is happening and your reactions to events.
And slowing down, thinking about yourself and others allows you to change your thoughts, your reactions and understand others. Mindfulness and Meditation can be a very useful tool on your road to personal growth, compassion for yourself and others, and finding fulfillment in life.
