>> The drive to live an authentic life transforms fear and doubt into personal growth and freedom
Mariposas is Spanish for butterfly. For Paty this is a symbol for transformation and freedom. This animal totem captures the essence of what she’s about: growth, transformation, flow and freedom.
>> Mindset and Inner World
>>> Authenticity and knowing who you are
The deepest reason Paty decided to start her own business was so that she could build a business that supported her lifestyle of freedom and travel.
A very important additional benefit was the flexibility it allowed her to take care of her family.
As a result, she has a lifestyle that brings her joy doing what she loves, and she can spend time with her family without needing to ask a boss for permission or time off.
>>> Embracing fear and doubt
Fear and doubt challenge everyone, even Action Hero’s! Questions like “Can I actually do this?” and “Is this the right step for me to take?” pop up from time to time.
Paty acknowledges and recognizes her fears – she allows those emotions to express themselves; she doesn’t ignore them, repress them or run away from them.
But she doesn’t give in to her fear either. She uses these emotions to inform her and she keeps going and growing.
>>> Freedom within Structure
Even though Paty has built a “Freedom Based Lifestyle” which supports her love of travel, she still takes responsibility to build structure into her day-to-day activities.
Because Patty’s an active Action Hero, she’s created rituals for herself to maintain balance and prevent burnout.
>> Core Empowering Beliefs
What drives Paty is her need for freedom and flexibility. Even though most everyone else has a traditional, predictable 9-to-5 job, Patty is tuned into her authentic self and embraces the fact that the cubicle lifestyle is not for her.
>> Her advice for someone starting a new Life Path
- Understand why you want to take on this mission. Be very clear about your purpose for doing this. If you’re willing to own the responsibility, then by all means go for it!
- Before you start, build your support system. Who in your life is willing to be your cheerleader(s)? This can be family, friends, a business mentor. It’s best not to do this all yourself – be inquisitive, curious, learn, reach out and ask for help.
- You have to be willing to put yourself out there. Find a way to work around any shyness or self-consciousness, and push beyond your comfort zone.
- The importance of learning how to choosing the right thing to focus on at any given time – prioritizing and time management.
- Creativity; thinking outside the box. Her solution was to find out what works for other people and copy their strategies. Don’t reinvent the wheel.
>> Summary of Paty’s Action Hero Mindset
- Fear and failure are powerful fuels for consistent success.
- Be true to your Authentic Self and build a Lifestyle that supports who you truly are.
- Put yourself around people who will support you. Find your cheerleaders.
- Constant learning and curiosity.
- Always strive for health and balance in your life.
- Ask for help. Do what you love, then hire out or barter the rest.
>> Homework for you!
1. How can use your fear, the real possibility of failing and the discouragement from loved ones as your fuel to drive you to learn, ask questions, grow, build and succeed!?! Remember, fear doesn’t mean “give up” – it means “stop, double check and get prepared for action!”
2. If you could pick 1 animal totem to symbolize your true Authentic Self, what animal would you choose?
3. If you were to take on a major challenge or make a major change in your life, who would support you? Who would your cheerleaders be?
