How to be ROCK STAR

We all have the potential to be a rock star in our own life. Yet, most of us never reach center stage because how we approach life is backwards.
We all have the potential to be a rock star in our own life. Yet, most of us never reach center stage because we believe we must have certain things, to do great things and then we will be happy.
In essence, we put conditions or barriers in front of what we really want. We can be our own worst enemies!
The barriers come from have/do/be thinking. It goes like this…
When I have been discovered as a great talent, I’ll do gigs to thousands of adorning fans every night. Finally, I’ll be free, happy, confident and proud of who I am – truly being – ROCK STAR (in whatever capacity)!
Waiting to have something to be great is a mistake. Successful people know this and often live their lives in reverse. They think be/do/have.
Sixto Rodriquez, a very talented musician from Detroit, is a superb example of a man who lived be/do/have. Rodriguez played his music daily even though he went unnoticed as a musical artist, singer and performer for most of his life. At one point, he stopped pursuing a career in music to support his family but he didn’t stop being rock star.
The documentary Searching for Sugar Man tells the remarkable story of Rodriquez, a poet, writer, musician, artist, social activist and community leader who was always true to himself, looking, acting and being rock star.
Always contributing his talents to the world, Rodriquez lived most of his life unaware someone took a copy of his debut album Cold Fact (less than a few thousand were ever made) to South Africa in 1971 where it became an anthem for an age. It is still one of the most listened to albums ever in a country of over 250 million people. For more than 30 years, he didn’t know millions of people half way around the world were in love with his music
He only learned of his fame in 2006 after documentary film maker Malik Benjelloul met Stephen “Sugar” Segerman who conducted extensive research and found Rodriguez alive and living in Detroit.
Rodriguez chose to be rock star – despite not being discovered. Now in his 70s, he still dresses like a rock star – dark sunglasses, black leather from top to bottom, full brimmed hat, and long jet black hair. He performs with a cool focused energy. His haunting voice emanates emotionally charged lyrics and music – totally being a rock star with every cell in his body.
The story of Rodriguez is one of being true to yourself, perseverance and not waiting for things to happen to validate who you want to be.
So if you want to be happy, fulfilled, have freedom, or be a rock star – start by considering these questions…
• How do you want to be, starting now?
• When you are being that, what will you do?
• When you do that? What will you have in your life?
You can start being that now…
