10 Seconds to Peace

What if we could find peace in just 10 seconds? In this article, discover how the key to peace can be discovered in 10 easy seconds.
We all find ourselves in challenging circumstances. We all find ourselves in routines that cause stress.
Maybe you get a call from your child reminding you that you were supposed to pick them up an hour ago. Maybe you have zero time to take a night off and just watch TV. Maybe you find yourself adding to your already busy schedule, double booking yourself (ever wish you could be in two places at once?). Maybe you’re stressed because you know you’ve already taken too much time out of your schedule to read this article.
Regardless of the stressful circumstances, at the end of the day, you probably find yourself wishing you just had one moment for some peace in your life, until you get a reminder on your phone telling you to be up 30 minutes early the next morning. Feeling worn out, you climb into bed and worry yourself to sleep about your schedule tomorrow.
Perhaps your only moment for peace is when you’re asleep, if you even find yourself having the time for that.
Unfortunately, it’s very unlikely that you find it possible to cut off all ties and move to an unknown location away from any and all stress in your life. And, even then, you would find yourself stressed about where to find your next meal, since you live in the wilderness. Or how to stay warm. Or how to make your own clothes.
The point is, we’ve made stress a part of who we are as people. Sometimes I think we don’t know what we would do with ourselves without it. Can you imagine a moment without stress in your life?
If not, now is your time to start. We know, within our heart of hearts, that we can’t run like this forever.
We’ll burn out. We’ll get sick. We’ll shut down.
If we can’t move to the mountains and shut ourselves off from all stress-causing circumstances, then there has to be a better way to manage our stress in the midst of it all.
There is a better way.
It’s a practice called 10 seconds to peace. We all have 10 seconds somewhere in our schedule.
In the car on your way to pick up your kids.
In line at the grocery store.
Calling someone and waiting for them to answer.
Eating lunch.
Getting dressed for the day.
In these short lived moments, you find your 10 seconds.
In the midst of your chaos, you find your 10 seconds.
And when you pause, in the chaos, to turn inward and feel the beating of your heart, you just made contact with the peace that lives inside of you at all times. With every exhale, peace is present. With every heartbeat, peace is present. Once you make contact with peace, by turning inward, it’s like catching up with an old friend. Have you ever spoken with someone on the phone, ended the call to continue your day… but your conversation is still on your mind all day long? It’s the same way with peace. Once you make contact, once you catch up with it, it will become a more prominent part of your life. You’ll begin looking for your 10 seconds in every small detail of your life.
10 seconds is all you need. 10 seconds could change your life. Find your 10 seconds.
