The level of respect we have towards ourselves will be reflected in our daily life experiences. Learn this simple secret to having more self-respect.
A Simple Key to Honor Yourself
One definition of honor is: “regard with great respect.”
Have you ever given thought to the idea of showing yourself respect? We all encounter situations in our lives where we feel people aren’t showing us respect. Whether it’s in our careers, or someone cuts us off in traffic, we feel disrespected.
Surrounded by a world where we’re left feeling torn down or disrespected, we continually choose to allow this kind of disrespect in our lives. Instead of feeling worthy of such respect, perhaps we feel to some degree we deserve disrespect.
But why do we buy into this idea that we don’t deserve as much respect as we truly desire in our hearts?
The key to this belief is that, deep inside, we don’t truly respect ourselves.
We talk negatively to ourselves, as though we’re our own enemy, tearing ourselves down for every mistake we make. Maybe you didn’t make a deadline, or didn’t forgot someones birthday. Regardless of the mistake, one thing is certain: we won’t stop beating ourselves up for it.
When we talk negatively to ourselves, we’re feeding our mind with countless thoughts of disrespect.
There is an answer to this endless cycle of disrespect towards ourselves. The answer is choosing, intentionally, to honor ourselves. To regard ourselves with great respect. Chances are, you strive to bring your best self forward on a daily basis. The choice we have to make is to honor the difference we do make in the world. Take note of the effort you put into making life better for yourself and those around you.
No one goes through life without impacting it to some degree, so when you choose to pause and notice all the simple ways you make the world a better place, suddenly it becomes easier to honor yourself for bringing these gifts forward.
Have you ever called someone, or sent them a text, and they told you it came at exactly the right time?
Have you ever smiled at someone who looked sad, and suddenly their face became happier?
Have you ever done some unexpected act of kindness, only to leave the recipient in shock?
These are the special moments of our lives that often pass us by without a second thought. These are the moments we can, if we allow ourselves, to pause and notice the difference we’ve been making all along.
You make a difference. It’s time to pause and take a moment to regard yourself with great respect
