Richard Hutton shares a simple trick to automate your peak performance diet. Make it so simple and so effective, that you succeed effortlessly.
Whatever goal you want to achieve, whether it be to advance in your career, deepening relationships with a close ones or even having an impact on the world, there is one definite element that is always needed. Energy.
When it comes to gaining more energy, there are numerous factors, as you know, and one of the most important is your diet. So much so that I’ve created a 3hr health seminar called “Revitalise your life” that I offer for free for all new coaching clients.
When it comes to implementing what you know and making it second nature, the best way is to automate it. After years of tweaking I have come to the ultimate way of preparing your food formula.
I have seen bodybuilders prepare meals: 6 tupperware containers filled with the same foods: rice, chicken and 2 baby carrots. I don’t know about you but I’d get quite bored doing that.
In the book “How Not To Die” Dr. Michael Greger talks about the Daily Dozen, a comprehensive list of the essential foods you need to eat daily. My idea is a combination of the two and here it is:
Prepare your meals the night before in glass tupperware containers that contain all the essential foods you would need to eat the next day, and none of the junk you know you’ve got to avoid.
That is the basic idea, now comes the details. I found that 5 containers work best for me:
one for breakfast oatmeal
one for sliced fruit
one for salad
one for lunch
one for dinner
I like optimising things as much as I can. I cook a big pot of rice with legumes as my lunch and dinner food that lasts me 3-4 days. From that fill 2 containers every night. For the oatmeal, I don’t even cook it I just put all the ingredients in the bowl and let them soak through: 1 cup of oatmeal, 1 cup of water/milk, dates, raspberries, cinnamon, cocoa powder, grounded flaxseeds and almonds. As far as fruits and veggies go, that should be straightforward
I do the same with water too. I fill out a few small bottles the night before to total 2 litres. Next day I just keep sipping from them till they’re gone.
It will take a few days for you to figure out the ideal quantity of food you need at each meal. Here’s a way to know if you got it: if after a meal you feel the need to eat some junk (sweets), you have not eaten enough. Note, I am not aiming for perfection, I do allow 1 cheat day/ week, the goal is just to be outstanding, not perfect.
So there you have it. A simple, practical way of optimising your eating habits to make sure you get the ideal volume and quality of fuel your body needs.
