Tips to improve your performance at work ...
Research says it’s true … men are more likely to self-promote than women. What can women do? Here are three tips to take control of your voice so you can be the best advocate for yourself you can be, and improve your performance at work.
First, be confident in yourself! You know what you want, and you know what you can do. Work to express yourself with confidence. If you’re unsure what that means, pay close attention in the next meeting to the person who holds the focus of the room, and is the one who’s ideas get heard and remembered. Model that behavior!
Second, ask for and accept feedback. Without daily feedback on how you are performing, you are missing tremendous growth opportunities. Reach out to your manager for some quick feedback each day on your performance. Not a “how did I do today?” … solicit specific feedback that is designed to clarify where you can improve.
Finally, manage emotions at work. Yes, it’s hard, and emotions do make us human, after all. But there’s a difference between thoughts and feelings, and knowing not just the difference between them but how to control each of them in conflict situations will improve how you and others see yourself.
