TAPPING INTO YOUR GREATNESS

Greatness isn't an exclusive privilege reserved for a select few, it's a decision that's available to us all. We just need to tap into that greatness.
One of my favorite inspirational books teaches us that… “Greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world”. I believe that. I’ve always believed that. I must admit though, that my actions didn’t always match my beliefs. There are three critical lessons that I have learned about greatness that have all been inspired by this quote.
Those three lessons are as follows…
1. Greatness is already in you – We were all born with the ability to achieve greatness. That greatness is best achieved when we discover our purpose. In other words… when we’re in alignment with our assignment we are fully tapping into our greatness. We all came equipped with our own set of gifts, but we get too caught up in trying to either replicate, monitor, or police someone else gifts instead of focusing on our own. We start looking at what other people have, and what they’ve accomplished, or where they work, and allow ourselves to get caught up in this culture of constant criticism and comparison. I know I did. And in this age of social media it has to be even harder for the millennial generation to avoid conforming to a culture of comparison. But if you don’t take anything else from this post, please know that greatness is an inside job. It’s already in you. Stop looking for YOUR greatness in other people, places, or things. You wont find it there.
2. Greatness is a choice – Much like happiness, greatness is a choice. Before you can actually tap into your greatness, you first have to decide that you are going to be great. It requires more than deciding that you want to be great. We all want to be great. You have to decide that you are going to be great, and then map out your path to greatness and go for it! And choosing to be great is synonymous with choosing to make a difference in the lives of others. I believe that one of the things that separate those that are good from those that are great is the choice to serve the greater good. My own life experiences and the studying of others have shown me that choosing to serve others is one of the triggers to tapping into your greatness. When you think of the greats throughout history, they all made a choice to serve a cause that was much bigger than themselves, regardless of the resistance or opposition that they knew would come along with that choice. Greatness does not occur in the comfort zone, and you are only as great as the amount of risk you are willing to take.
3. Greatness is for all of us – Greatness is not an exclusive right or privilege reserved for just a select few, it’s an opportunity that is available to us all. I would even go so far as to say that greatness is more than an opportunity; it’s a responsibility. I believe that we all have a responsibility to tap into our greatness. I believe we have all been sent here to be great at what we do. Too often though, we compromise that greatness because we aren’t doing what we were sent here to do. We’re off-purpose, and it shows. We wallow in mediocrity leading unfulfilled and unhappy lives because we found a place that we’ve labeled as “good enough” and we get comfortable there. Well, good enough is no longer good enough! You have been sent here to be great. And the world needs you to be great, because no one else can do what you’ve been sent here to do at the level at which you’ve been equipped to do it. Greatness is inside of you. You just have to tap into it. And the best way to ensure you achieve and maximize your greatness is to discover your purpose and get in alignment with your assignment. No more looking at yourself in other people’s mirrors. They’ve got theirs, now it’s your responsibility to tap into yours.
