Break free from fatigue and get your energy back with these simple and effective tips.
Do you often feel tired at work or at the end of your day? While there are numerous factors that can contribute to feeling fatigued, we live in a society where large numbers of people are sitting down for most of their workday. While sitting is not using much actual energy, this tends to make you feel even more tired because physical movement generates energy.
Fortunately, there are effective ways you can combat fatigue for more energy and increase your vitality. some of these techniques, when developed into consistent habits, can also slow the process of aging.
Here are 5 tips to fight fatigue:
1) Eat Smaller Meals. Large meals zap you of energy because your body needs to use a lot of energy to digest them. Small and frequent meals keep your blood sugars from fluctuating, giving you steady amounts of energy throughout the day.
2) Move Your Body. Being physically active actually boosts your energy levels. While it might be harder to stay active while at work, take short breaks and do some quick rounds of jumping jacks if possible. If you’re on a long phone call, try walking around while on the phone instead of sitting down.
3) Stay Hydrated with Water. Notice this tip says “with water” and not with sugary soft drinks. Over 60% of our bodies are water. Dehydration depletes your energy and can also contribute to getting headaches. Notice when you are feeling thirsty because if you’re thirsty, you’re already dehydrated.
4) Get Enough Sleep. Target at least 7-8 hours of sleep a night. Make sure your mattress and pillow are comfortable. Naps can also freshen up your energy level. Short naps that are no longer than 30 minutes are ideal because if they’re longer you may have difficulty sleeping during the night.
5) Know Your Personal Circadian Rhythm. Whether you’re a morning person or a night owl, work with it instead of against it. If you have especially demanding activities to do, choose to do them when you have the most energy to work with. However, even if you’re a night owl, schedule your activities so you can still get enough sleep.
Be encouraged to start implementing any of these tips into your life consistently. Pick one today and take a step toward combating fatigue so you can have more energy and vitality to enjoy your life!
