Working with a divorce coach may involve working through the question, “Should I leave my marriage?” and learning about what divorce entails.
Stage 1 of working with a divorce coach may involve working through the question, “Should I leave my marriage?” and learning about what divorce entails as well as working through the pros and cons of divorce. It may also include setting clear goals for making a marriage work.
When meeting with a potential client, I am of the mind that the decision the client made to speak to me about divorce may be their first step toward rescuing a relationship or it may be taking a step closer to dissolving a marriage. Preconceived notions are never reliable indicators of what will transpire in a session.
Few people have an immediate and crystal clear sense that they will choose to divorce. The process of determining whether to divorce may last days, weeks, months, or even years. In the face of many expectations and responsibilities, individuals must consider whether the pain or oppression of a relationship is greater than the fear or anxiety, or costs of moving forward with divorce. A coach can help an individual consider and weigh numerous important factors against each other. For those who choose to give their marriage another try, coaching may act as both a wake-up call and a way of setting goals that are specific, measurable, actionable, realistic, and time bound. For those who eventually choose to divorce, pre-legal advice and strategy can prevent negative repercussions, keep attorney fees low, and minimize the time spent in the divorce process.
Every situation is unique. Before embarking upon a coaching relationship the coach and client must determine whether working together is right at a particular point in time for the client. If it is, the two must work together to determine the structure that the coaching will take.
For these reasons, regardless of where a client is in the divorce process, the first consultation with me occurs without a fee. If after the initial free consultation the client chooses to engage in a coaching relationship, we will work together to create a coaching plan that is tailored to their individual needs.
