Take a Chance - Make A Change - You're Worth It!
I wanted to take some time today to share some thoughts about taking chances. Sometimes taking a chance on something can feel really frightening and often times that fear will prevent you from taking the chance you may want to take.
Taking a chance on something can be about changing to a new job or career, moving to a new place, starting a new relationship or leaving an old relationship or maybe even starting a new business. You name it! As we live our lives, we are faced with decisions every day and many of them make us think about whether or not we are ready to take a chance to try something new.
Let’s face it – change is scary. I’m not here to tell you otherwise, but I can tell you that it can be AMAZING! There is such a sense of accomplishment and self-satisfaction that you will experience when you allow yourself to push through your fear. It’s so rewarding when you take a chance on something that is scary as hell but you did it anyway! You want to know the really cool thing about taking chances? The secret is not being attached to the outcome. Think about the great satisfaction that comes from the fact that you took the chance at all!
Your life will change is so many ways once you face your fear and try something new. You may even want to start by taking small steps to help get you started.
Here are a few examples of some chances I took and how it helped change my life. When I was young I was fascinated with California. All of my life that’s all I could ever think about. I remember feeling like the Dorothy character in the Wizard of Oz. For me, California was my OZ. Now technically I didn’t have an external wizard to grant me any wishes mind you, but what I did have was my higher power, also known as my inner source to help guide me.
I asked myself these questions:
What would my life be like if I didn’t take this chance?
How would I feel if I didn’t push myself to move to California?
Would I always be questioning myself later on in my life?
So without two pennies to rub together, literally, I thought and thought about it and finally told myself – what the hell! I have to try!
I went in to work one day and asked my boss if I could transfer to the California office. I was as excited as a two year old could get and I was so full of confidence thinking to myself, ‘no way will he say no”. Well guess what? He said “NO”! I was crushed. I went home crying and thinking to myself that I could never move out there with no job and no money so I should give up my dream.
Then something came over me when I woke up the next morning. I was so sure that if I didn’t take the chance to move then and that time, somehow I knew I would never do it. So I gathered up all of my courage and went in to tell him I was going to resign. It seemed crazy at the time because I had no idea and no plan but I tell you what I did have, a strong desire and a lot of COURAGE and determination!
I sincerely believe when you believe in yourself, the universe will support you. So my boss, looked at me with complete shock and because he liked me so much, he said, (which I’ll never forget), “You little shit, you’re serious aren’t you? Well if that’s dam important to you, I’ll transfer you but you get there on your own – Im not paying for it”!
Well before he even finished I leaped from my chair and ran across his desk and gave him a big hug and a kiss on the cheek and said Thanks boss you won’t regret it!
Before he had a chance to say anything more, I ran out of his office. After all I had a lot of planning to do! ☺
He laughed heartedly because he couldn’t believe I had that kind of courage – he didn’t have the heart to say no and beside I was a great employee and he knew Id be loyal to him and as always, get the job done!
Now the reason why I share this story is because when I took this chance I was just a kid, 25 years old. That decision was the foundation to my new career and many other wonderful new experiences that I learned throughout the years. I may not have grown as much if I didn’t take that chance.
Sometimes taking chances is scary! I challenge you today to think about something that you may be dreaming about but are afraid to take a chance. Think about what your life can be like if you did take the chance. Visualize your success. Feel it! Act as if it’s already happened. Give it time, don’t give up! Take one small step at a time. You’ll be amazed at how much that decision to take the chance to move toward something important in your life will change your life!
And remember if you need support, Im here to help!
So here’s to taking chances! Every chance we take helps us become happier and more confident and we can then help inspire others. That’s my mission to help make the world a better place – by helping people follow their heart and tap into their inner source/wisdom and gain the courage they need to take chances resulting in living the life they want to live.
When each of us are happy, those around us are happy, therefore together we all make a difference!
Best wishes
