I Love My Career

Choose A Job You Love and You'll Never Have to Work A Day In Your Life
I recently read this quote about choosing a job you love and it really resonated with me once again. I have been curious these days more and more about how many people are actually happy with their chosen profession. I have been talking to a few people about how difficult it can be to find a job, but in many ways people don’t realize how difficult it can also be to stay in a job that they really aren’t happy with.
Because this thought kept lingering in my mind, I thought I would actually reach out to people I know and ask a simple question to see if my assumptions were right. I took a poll and asked 25 people “Are You Happy with Your Current Profession”?
I was amazed with the results! 21 out of 25 people actually said they really didn’t like their job and basically said the same thing, which was “My job pays the bills”
It is really amazing how many of us are stuck in our minds and settle for the day to day mundane routine just so that we can get the money we need to ‘pay the bills’. We get up and rush out the door and, for many of us, spend two to three hours a day commuting only to get to that place where we don’t want to be in the first place! It really astonishes me how many of us are actually doing this every single day of our lives!
Think about this simple math. Every single day that you spend about 10 -12 hours a day going somewhere you don’t want to go and doing something that you don’t want to do is pretty much 50% of your life! This is a staggering fact to think about!
On top of that, think about how you are spending your time after you get home after being away 12 hours a day with your energy completely depleted. I asked many of the same people this question and most of them said, I’m so exhausted all I can do is eat, binge on TV lay on the couch, go to bed and get up and do it all over again!
If you can relate to any of this, did you ever stop to think about what this is actually costing you? You may be paying your bills and feeling a sense of financial security, but you are paying an emotional, physical and spiritual price that far outweighs the cost of paying the bills.
By staying stuck in a job that you don’t like spending about 50% of your life in these surroundings, most people at one point or another experience:
Anxiety and Depression
Work life balance challenges
Communication challenges with work and personal relationships
Feelings of isolation and not being connected
Health issues
These are just to name a few. When you really think about of the significant impact these choices have on your life, you’ll be astonished.
Remember this to, As you think about these important decisions you are making in your life. Your life is passing by so fast and you know it! Ask yourself this? Is this really it? Is this all there is?
If you’re a parent, is this the example you want to teach your children? Do you really want them to go through their lives surviving and not thriving?
If you’ve invested thousands of dollars in your education, is this what you signed up for? Did you spend all of your time and effort mastering your skill only to end up in a job to pay them back and be unhappy?
If you’re mid-way through your life, you know what these choices are costing you by now. The symptoms start to show up one way or the other. Ask yourself this, do you really think you can do the same thing for another 10-15 years?
From my own personal experiences, I know what this feels like! As I mentioned recently in another post, most of my reasons that I didn’t begin to make my transition was for the very same reasons.
Fear/ Uncertainly
Comfort Zone/Status Quo
Financial security
Lack of clarity on what else to do
I don’t have it in me to start over
Although I’ve enjoyed my profession for many years, there came a time when I lost my momentum and felt out of alignment. I eventually felt stuck, disconnected, didn’t embrace new opportunities because I just literally lost sight of things. I stopped “visualizing” my future. I told myself I was OK, but eventually it all caught up to me. The truth is so many of us are feeling the same things and making the same choices for the same reasons, and I was inspired to do something about it!

My personal dream career has found me. I’m overjoyed with passion and excitement and taking on multiple projects with a sense of emotional freedom! If anything – I now wish I had more hours in a day!
