Spring has Sprung - Without Me!

All good plans will surely happen, right? No matter how well I have planned the off-season work, it just didn't happen. Sometimes we allneed a redo.
Alright, can someone tell me where winter has gone. Well, you know what I mean. I have been told that spring is here – although it’s kinda hard to tell by the up and down weather we have been having. It’s like really, give me a break. This off-season I was positioned to make it my best one yet. The thought was by race season I would be ready to leap out of the gate and get back on the course. Well guess what, that’s not happening. Instead, I gained some extra pounds over the off-season that I am still struggling to address and deal with. Plus my training definitely fell by the waste side, which was not supposed to happen. With all that said, I spent this past weekend adjusting my race schedule and moving events around, rescheduling some and luckily being able to defer some until 2017. Alright this is the part of the post where you do not make fun of me. Yes, I have a calendar being built for 2017 already. In fact, it has 11 events already on there plus two cruises. Yes, we are hitting the seas twice in 2017 – truth be told, I’m hoping to add a third one in the fall but we shall see.
So now is the time you just get honest with yourself and say what can i get done in 2016. What makes sense? What is realistic and achievable for the start of the season and how do I readjust my goals for the end of the season. Off the list is my repeat Ironman in Raleigh. Wanted to really go back and nail it this time. Now that I have one under my belt, I know I can do the distance – the real challenge is improving and making the best times possible. With the current disarray of my training – that ones not going to happen. So instead the Olympic in Williamsburg and the Nations Tri are now my two big races for this year. Both will be challenging and provide me an opportunity to really focus my training and get moving to accomplish both of these races. I have also learned that maybe I can take on a little too much at times.
Work is going great. I’m fortunate to have a position that I enjoy with an organization that allows me the flexibility to do what needs to be done. At the same time, my coaching practice is growing and I continue to add more clients which makes the world of balance a little more difficult. That said, I really enjoy working with all my clients and appreciate the referrals and the confidence that so many are placing or have placed in me. That leaves whatever is left over for training and sleep. Unfortunately, I am an individual that has always required a lot of sleep. So for me, that will not be changing. The real focus is on my own training and making sure that I allot time for it and that I am dedicated to sticking to the schedule. My first official triathlon of the year will now be this weekend. It is going to be ugly and somewhat of a struggle – which is sad since it is only a sprint – but it is what it is. The real key is that I will be out there doing it.
Look forward to an update this weekend and be ready to cheer me on this season. Please continue to keep in contact and definitely keep those referrals coming. I appreciate all of you and the support you provide with my business and athletic events! www.GetFitLynchburg.com
