How many of you have heard the story of that fairly large south Atlantic island named “Someday Isle”? You know, someday I’ll do this and someday I’ll do that and maybe someday I’ll get around to improving this or that? Well, what’s holding you back?
We all get the same 24 hours each day. And the reality is you cannot create more time, you can only spend it differently. Wall Street Journal writer Laura Vanderkam offers one solution:"Instead of saying “I don’t have time” try saying “it’s not a priority,” and see how that feels. Often, that’s a perfectly adequate explanation. I have time to iron my sheets, I just don’t want to. But other things are harder. Try it: “I’m not going to edit your résumé, sweetie, because it’s not a priority.” “I don’t go to the doctor because my health is not a priority.” If these phrases don’t sit well, that’s the point. Changing our language reminds us that time is a choice. If we don’t like how we’re spending an hour, we can choose differently."
Using the phrase “It’s not a priority” will help give you clarity to determine what really is your FocalPoint. What is the one thing you can do at any given moment, to give you the very best results possible for you in that area.
Do the work to determine your true priorities and then commit to spending your time on those priorities and learn to let go or delegate out the rest. Having clarity over your priorities will allow you to manage your time better and in a way create time.
