Why do we need life coaches?
The topic of hiring a coach comes up often and of course with it goes all the doubts in what is a coach good for. For organizations, coaches provide a variety of services from aligning their business process to employee satisfaction rate, team building to executive and managerial emotional quotient training. Today’s corporate environment has changed drastically in thinking. We see more and more cost cutting methods implemented and still at the end of the year the bad news rolls in that even though the management has done great and the figures have barely made it, more cost cutting is coming the next year and the year after that.
Looking at corporations that have been established many decades ago and had been going strong, you will find that their strength and longevity was not dependent on their cost cutting methods, rather their vision, loyalty, respect and service; neither one of which seem to play a role in the corporate world today. The old corporations are now one by one folding and no one looks into the heart of matter to understand why. We hire Lean Six Sigma to tell us where the defects in manufacturing is, but we fail to see all the other defects alongside that contributes to the demise of the organization.
Corporations lose millions of dollars to employees that are laid off or quit, however the figures are massaged to show an improvement in management tactics to stakeholders. Stakeholders and customers are being lied to in believing the company is doing well and all along we are pulling one brick at a time from the base out until the whole thing collapses and everyone acts surprised.
Why do companies need coaches? For the exact reasons outlined. They not only need to take a look at their processes but also check their business pulse. The pulse of a business is nothing more than the mere blood that runs through their veins – their employees. Speaking the employee language and trying to pinpoint the sore spots or inefficiencies, is what a coach can do, which in the long run can save millions of dollars and dare I say saves the company from death.
On the individual level, even super stars need a coach to bring to their attention some of the details that they may be missing. As an individual not getting a coach can prove to be a career and life limiting move. That’s because coaches help recognize and focus on what’s important, which accelerates your success in life and career matters.
A coach can help you see your situation in a clear unobstructed way without any emotional investments. They can help you identify your goals and the gaps. Successful athletes clearly understand the power of coaching. Truly innovative companies understand that coaching can help increase their performance and drive their KPI to the levels they could not imagine before. They invest in coaching for their senior managers and executives.
Coaching also majorly impacts an organization’s financial performance; according to performed studies, 60% of organizations with strong coaching culture report their profits to be above average, compared to their peer group.
