Leading Ourselves First

Leadership starts with us, we must lead ourselves first. The second key is to bring out the best in others, to help others to grow and develop.
We all are leaders and followers in our personal and professional lives. Most importantly, we must lead ourselves because leadership starts with us. Our attitude, actions, and ability to grow and learn set us apart from ineffective leaders.
Exceptional leaders are led from within – they remain focused, calm, and confident. They have a clear vision and passion for what they do. When obstacles occur, they focus on how they can overcome it and find creative solutions.
Brilliant leaders bring out the best in others. They are able to guide their team beyond the comfort zone achieving success above and beyond the team’s expectations. The most powerful thing superb leaders are able to do is to guide their team members to feel confident and excited about their own abilities.
Emerging Leaders
The emerging leaders who succeed quickly are willing to learn from others. They are open to being coached and have a mentor to tap into the experience and knowledge of those who walked the path to success.
Becoming a mentee is a huge step upwards on the success ladder. Interestingly, many people don’t take advantage of learning from others and slow down or limit their progress. It takes self-awareness and humbleness to reach out to a mentor and ask for guidance.
Becoming a mentor in the areas we are proficient in is amazing and rewarding. It also keeps us expanding on our own knowledge and support our own growth.
The mentor – mentee benefits are superb and I would like to encourage you to challenge yourself:
Become a mentee in areas you want to grow. Reach out to someone who has the knowledge and experience.
Become a mentor. Guide others in the areas you are proficient and can make a difference in.
As you move through your own path to success, I encourage you to explore the ‘mentor – mentee’ for yourself. It really can make a difference in the results you experience.
