Personal Brand: Presenting The Real You

Many people think branding is about creating an image for the outside world; they think it’s about having their own website or blog.
If your goal is to position your best professional-self in a manner that will differentiate who you are from anyone else who does what you do, the only way to do that is through developing your personal brand.
Many people think branding is about creating an image for the outside world; they think it’s about having their own website or blog. Many professionals believe it’s about the number of followers they have on their social media sites, and nothing could be further from the truth. True brands; succesful brands are based in authenticity.
To prove it, here are a few examples. Think of… Volvo – BMW – Toyota.
Most would think safety in relation to Volvo. Performance in relation to BMW. Dependability in relation to Toyota.
These are common thoughts amongst most people because this is what is TRUE, GENUINE & REAL about each of them. If BMW were to begin building cars in the same segment as the Toyota Camry, those connected to the BMW brand would become confused; some might even feel betrayed.
Take a moment and think of a major brand name. Are you able to identify their unique promise of value. When a brand positions itself with a clear, consistent and constant message, their target audience will find them [and] connect with them based on their promise.
If a brand is not clear [or] consistent [or] constant (aka; absent at times) their target audience will have difficulty understanding them, connecting with them and recognizing them.
As a certified personal brand strategist, I encourage you to make your personal brand a priority. When you build it, make sure it’s designed with what is TRUE, GENUINE & REAL about you.
As you take steps to design your brand, be authentic. That’s what’s going to make your brand successful. Anything other than the real YOU, just won’t do.
