Land your dream career by looking inward (not outward)

I have come across many individuals who clock into work every day, miserable, unhappy and jaded, sometimes just coming in for their paycheck. This is an incredible waste of time, it is a lose-lose proposition for both the employee and the employer. The employee gets a sense of unhappiness and the employer loses productivity and money!

Do not look outward for just another job opportunity, instead listen to your calling, strengths, track records and then go after the opportunity.

I know of some employers that will pay employees to quit their jobs, just to ensure they have the best and most motivated talent.

Tips, Tricks and Coaching Questions

What I have found that works for folks, is to look inward to learn what you love most. I also know some people who have taken a break from the hustle and bustle of every day duties and get away on a vacation or get some alone time to figure out what they would like to do day in and day out. Internships and part-time jobs are also a great way to test out the waters in a career. Interviewing and talking with subject matter experts that are in a field you are exploring may help provide insight.

Take a personality test to learn more about it and then see if your personality type may be a fit for a desired industry. At times, certain fields may attract different personalities.
