Do you find yourself with a pile of things to do and yet lack the motivation to do it? Do you have things that you want to get done but you do not feel inspired to achieve them? There’s so much to get done but there is also so much to experience, appreciate, and enjoy in the process of getting it done. How can you tap into that motivation that you need to help you push through your activities and your day with a little less effort? Consider incorporating these five habits into your lifestyle:
1. Start and End the Day with Gratitude! Practicing gratitude is good for our well-being. Practicing gratitude boosts our happiness as well as our energy levels. It is emotionally and physically draining to not appreciate those around you or what you have in life at this very moment. Practicing gratitude attracts better opportunities for our professional and personal development, improves our network, and allows us to truly understand and feel compassionate for those around us. People want to be surrounded by positive energy; Energy that says, “I am grateful for what is and optimistic about what will be.”
2. Use Your Five Senses to Rejuvenate and Uplift Your Mood. Using our senses can spark motivation and inspiration. We have five basic senses: Sight, Sound, Taste, Touch, and Smell. Being aware of our senses is one of the first things we learn in preschool and yet, we neglect to appreciate and explore as grown adults. Shall we go back to the basics! Paying attention to what our senses are experiencing will support our wellbeing by grounding us in the moment. As we develop the habit of paying attention to what our senses tell us, we are able to better connect to our souls, our values, and it can inspire us to have purpose in our lives.
3. Read Self-help Books! Self-help books offer insight and perspective that you might not have thought about. Reading self-help books can motivate you to connect with yourself and realize how you relate to the external world. They can inspire you to be the best you can be. Discovering the “right” self-help book at the “right” time can be a life changer. If you pick up a self-help book and you don’t like it consider trying another style, author, or topic, or simply put it down and read it some other time. All Self-help books are not for everyone, but with a little effort you can find the topics and authors that keep you motivated and inspired.
4. Make Time for Healthy Connections with Others. Sharing with others helps multiply the joys and divide the sorrows. However, you want to share with the right people – “People that bring out the best in you – not the stress in you” as they say. Some of our greatest joys can been connecting with people over food, shared interest and hobbies or gathering in places of worship. These connections are helpful in uplifting our spirits to proceed with the day.
5. Make Time for Solitude. Some people tend to feel guilty about making time to be alone, but you shouldn’t. Some people have a hard time saying no to obligations; they always show up when they really don’t want to. This habit can be exceedingly draining. Time alone is necessary for mental and physical reset. Make time to relax, reflect, and renew. This process acts as a motivating force by cleansing and resupplying the energy you need. Only then you can re-engage in a healthy way.
If you incorporate these five habits into your life, you’ll begin to feel more motivated and be able to stay inspired longer. Be prepared to see improvements in your life and your overall happiness. After all, it’s motivation and inspiration that brings out our very best!
