“Have patience with everything that remains unsolved in your heart…live in the question.” ~ Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young PoetThe reality is nothing is certain; the unknown is always upon us. We must cope with uncertainties during life transitions and as crises arise. Life events such as the death of a loved one, sudden or unpredictable illnesses, divorces, financial crises, and loss of employment – for some examples can be surprising and difficult to cope with. Although these life events often teach us something about ourselves and the world around us, they can also cause some anxiety for many people. Life is more valuable when we embrace its inherent unpredictable traits. There are some possible approaches that can help you ease into unusual times and take on new situations with grace.
Possible Approaches
1. Be Resourceful. Resources within your, family, friends or community, the government, financial institutions, your place of employment or worship, and business networks can prove useful. Additionally, you could reach out to life coach to help get you back on track and find the way ahead. Life Coaches help you pick up the pieces and determine the way ahead with less effort.
2. Use mindful-based interventions to reduce anxiety. This is a moment-to moment approach. Interventions can include meditation, which will reduce the pressure and stress of a new situation. Imagine the positive attributes and how it will help you grow as a person rather than focusing mainly on the negative. Another excellent mindful intervention technique is not to always believe your thoughts. Maybe what you believe is true, maybe it’s not. View your thoughts as a separate entity from yourself and it can eliminate judgments and significantly help reduce your anxiety.
3. Consider this period of uncertainty a great opportunity for discovery and adventure. View it as an opportunity for personal growth and obtain satisfaction from the uncertainty. Use doubt and fears to propel you forward. As yourself, “Where might this challenge take me?”, “What opportunities does it offer?” “Will it lead me to a new career?”, “Will I be a stronger person because of this experience?” and “Will it allow me to do more of what I love?” The possibilities are endless and the questions are many. Take a leap into a new adventure and discover something new about yourself in the process.
In the end, be confident and know that everything will work out. Realize that you can handle anything that comes your way. Positive thinking and self-confidence can go a long way. And when something unthinkable happens, the question isn’t “why?” the question is “how can I turn this experience into a beneficial or positive one?” If you are dealing with life’s uncertainties, know that your soul deserves peace.
