Why is Life Coaching exploding? How does it compare to Counseling? Come read as Certified Life Coach, Travis Brady explains the difference among them.
What is life coaching?
First: Let’s define it.
Life: is a characteristic distinguishing physical entities having biological processes (such as signaling and self-sustaining processes) from those that do not, either because such functions have ceased (death), or because they lack such functions and are classified as inanimate.Coach: training or development in which a person called a “coach” supports a learner in achieving a personal or professional goal.
Life coaching is a fairly new field that has exploded onto the scene. It’s grown immensely due to the results that it brings in people’s lives. Life coaches are also viewed as mentors which mentoring is a process for the informal transmission of knowledge, social capital, and the psychosocial support perceived by the recipient as relevant to work, career, or professional development; mentoring entails informal communication, usually face-to-face and during a sustained period of time.
In short life coaches help bust through past barriers and get over walls by unleashing the power that’s inside every person to get the results BRADY copy wanted in any area of life by providing tools, resources, inspiration, and various other measures to dramatically increase results in life.
“This life has a lot of positive energy… it also has a lot of negative energy; depending on which energy we tap into will determine our results”
~Travis Brady
A true life coaches job is to guide the individual to reach new levels in life including relationships, dating, business, happiness, health, or any other aspect where the person feels stuck.
A life coach focuses on the now, looking forward in life and reaching new heights of goals, confidence, and self-esteem. In contrast a therapist looks into the past for crisis that has happened. They deal with past traumas that have happened and help to develop an understanding of it and letting go. This is not saying that therapy is bad, there are a lot of therapist who are good at their jobs and have changed lives. Life coaching is in a different realm of helping a person move forward in life and can definitely be a better step for individuals who keep experiencing the same roadblocks.
So in essence Life Coaching deals with the present and focuses on moving forward with clarity, purpose and intention, while therapy deals with resolving the past. Life Coaching IS NOT just talking and giving advice.
Life Coaching is listening with a clear and concise intention and understanding
Talking is just dumping emotional garbage in an unhealthy way.
Life Coaching ignites that student into taking action.
Talking they just want to be handed a solution.
Life Coaching focuses on the internal world.
Talking focuses on external world.
Life Coaching focuses on solutions.
Talking finds problems to dwell on.
Life Coaching is uplifting and inspiring.
Talking is draining in all aspects of health.
Life Coaching is organized and in order.
Talking is chaotic and never ends.
Life Coaching teaches the person how to decide for themselves to get results.
Talking can lead to misguided advice and information that leaves the person stuck.
As you can see there is a number of reasons why Life Coaching has been a much better alternative for individuals then the traditional talk therapy. We’ve all had coaching before in the past and wonder why it wasn’t effective or why we didn’t change. There could be lots of reasons why that came to be. The biggest reason is that change must come from within. There has to be an internal shift that takes place inside your head. If you’ve ever seen someone successful in anything in life they’ve been able to make this internal change.
“People who excel at any particular subject in life all have one thing in common. A ridiculous strong brain”
Lastly, no one has ever experienced everything you’ve done. No one has walked in your shoes. Even your closest family has not been through all your experiences in life. For someone to give you instructions on what to do would be …As the saying goes, “Easier said than done.” It’s easy to randomly give advice. But what people need is to be guided to a place of inspiration where they, and the coach, can collectively come to the next step to get to the next level.
