How do I decide when to leave a job? Look to integrity...
Recently, I was talking with a potential client. She had just left a job due to issues that didn’t mesh with her values.
She was feeling down about it, thinking maybe she should have just hung in there a little bit longer.
I told her I was proud of her because leaving that job allowed her to stay “in integrity.”
Choose integrity and you have chosen wisely.
Staying in integrity is establishing a healthy boundary. It is being true to yourself. It is honoring what is most important to you.
The word integrity has its roots in the latin word integer, which means whole or complete (source: wikipedia.com)
These days we often think of integrity meaning honesty, having principles… those sorts of things. That is one part, but integrity is the way back to wholeness.
Stay in integrity and be your whole, authentic self.
And don’t forget, your whole, authentic self is ALWAYS your best self.
There are times when staying with a frustrating job is the best choice. But when it leaves you outside of integrity isn’t one of those times.
