The following questions are designed to help you gain insight through exploration, and identify your skills.
Building and finding your skills
Instructions (Part 1)
To get started ask the people around you what they think your skills are. What are you good at? This will be the first movement towards helping you identify your skills.
Make an attempt to speak with 3 people around you that you trust. This might be your friends, family, colleagues and others who know you best, maybe your barista. Ask them about what they think your skills are.
The following questions are designed to help you gain insight through exploration, and identify your skills. Release, the fear, release the expectation and enjoy the ride.
Example Questions:
1. What do you think my skills are?
2. Can you think of a time when I successfully used my skills?
3. Can you define what those skills mean?
4. Are there skills that you think I could improve on?
5. When am I at my best? Can you tell me a story about that time?
Instructions (Part 2)
Next, reflect on your own skills. Below are some examples of strengths-based questions.
The aim of the questions is to encourage you to reflect on what you are good at and what you enjoy doing.
Answer each question based on your own self-reflection. There are no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answers.
Questions:
1. What are you good at?
2. What do you learn quickly?
3. What do/did you find easiest to learn at school or university?
4. Which subjects do/did you most enjoy studying?
5. What things give you energy?
6. Describe a successful day you have had.
7. When did you achieve something you were really proud of?
After you’re done, share your experience with friends and family, and use this reflection as you springboard to understanding and utilizing your strengths.
