How in-depth does the interview process really go in most cases?
Here is how I answer this question when asked
1. Every job you interview for will verify your education and employment history. They will call your last several employers and likely call your colleges or ask for copies of your diplomas. You must be equipped to furnish up to date and accurate information.
2. When completing applications you will be asked for references from your previous employers and your previous Managers or Supervisors. The information must be up to date with current telephone numbers included. Your dates of employment including months, your compensation including bonuses and your accurate title should be included when asked.
3. You will likely be asked specific questions about your last position. Be specific with your answers and try to relate your answers to past experiences through a story about what happened in the past, what the situation was and how your solution helped the company solve the problem.
4. You will be asked behavioural based questions by an interviewer who is skilled in asking such questions. Be prepared to answer them. Have specific information with statistics of your accomplishments at hand and ready to recite for any anticipated question.
5. Most organizations will conduct more than one interview if you are being considered for a position. In a lot of cases, the same questions will be asked of you for comparison sake; that is to make sure you are telling a truthful story. If you are lying you will be caught right here.
6. Most large companies are doing Criminal and Credit checks on candidates that are being considered for positions. If you have issues in this area your application will likely not go further.
7. Some organizations are now performing on line testing to find more information about your attitude. Don’t be surprised if you are asked to do any of these attitude tests.
Finally, be aware some employers have written into their Letters of Employment such statements as, if you are found to have been untruthful or given distorted information, it may be cause for immediate dismissal. Most employers establish a 3 or 6 month probation period for this or other reasons.
