Walk the Walk

Who is actually driving your life?
Actually, a lot of people are living a double life.
We do not bring the essence of who we are, our developed and healthy self into our roles at work, our career and even business. We see it as something external, a function & a means just to exchange for something. It becomes an image we create to show what we want others to see. In that, we stop ourselves from becoming fully human.
Moving forward, walk the talk is not enough. To scale new heights as evolved individuals & groups, we need to walk the walk that is not only just actions, but to breathe our deeper values, day in, day out. It is only then we can talk our walk and make greater impact by passing it on.
Spread a deep mindset and essence of you, not just leaving a footprint you want others to see.
This is required in leadership and the roles we are in especially in this volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous world.
Many of us tend to think of the self as a noun. We refer to ourselves in static terms: I am a human resources manager; I am a son; I am a Singaporean. I am a chairman of this community. Try to think of your self as a verb, and refer to yourself in dynamic terms. See how it changes your sense of identity and possibility: I am learning and growing; I am considering the pros and cons of the choices in front of me; I am feeling many things at the same time—sad and happy, tired yet excited. Add time parameters to increase the sense of flowing nature of yourself.
The “self” is dynamic, flowing, and fascinating. Some people refer to it as the “selfing” to make its dynamic nature clearer. We are flowing all the time, and there are many streams that make up who and what we are. Some aspects of ourselves may be highly-developed, while others lag behind. And yet some things remain constant.
As we will discover, the important question is: Who is in charge of this self-process in all its multi-layered and ever-changing complexity? Ask yourself: Am I letting the exterior world telling me who I should be, how I should act, and what I should strive for? Or is there a deeper, calmer voice guiding my unfoldment.
Am I a bundle of contradictions, seeming to be one person in one moment and another in the next? Or am I doing my best to express integrity and self-consistency as I navigate the complexities of life? Am I feeling aligned with a purpose more universal than the petty and short-term concerns and desires that my ego is feeling today?
Who is driving your life? Is the calmer, wiser “Higher Self” in charge, or are you driven by an immature, short-sighted ego and/or the beliefs and ideals of others? This central question of who is driving says everything about your capacity to become fully human and the depth of your engagement in the process of growth and development right now.
So, who is walking your walk?
