Failure is a choice

Avoid these two common mistakes and you will surely be on your way towards success. (1) Never try (2) Label the outcome as a failure
I know two sure-fire ways to fail. Woo hoo isn’t that exciting!?… How could that EVER be exciting? Because, if you avoid these two common mistakes, you will surely be on your way towards success. The two most common ways to fail are:
1. Never try
2. Label the outcome as a failure
Too easy isn’t it? So, what could you do instead? First… you’ll have to TRY – have a go – be willing to make some mistakes (both big and small). It’s hard to correct the course of a boat that isn’t moving (because there’s nothing to correct). The boat will first have to move for its course to be corrected. It really doesn’t matter which way it moves at first – even in the opposite direction! Have you ever noticed how easy it is to turn the steering wheel of a car when it’s moving (as opposed to when it’s still)?
I’ve heard Tony Robbins say “Success comes from good judgement. Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement.” So, it’s really important to be willing to make some mistakes. We’ve all successfully made mistakes when we were kids. That’s how we became masters at walking, talking and all the rest we’ve now taken for granted…
OK, so what do I mean by “labeling”? I wonder how you’d feel about taking action if you believed this phrase (which you can)… “I never lose. I only win or learn”. Now that’s THE way to resourcefully label an outcome. The outcome is either a win or an opportunity to learn. When you communicate (especially with yourself), replace the word FAILURE with OUTCOME or RESULT. This is called re-framing – looking at the same situation from a different angle and assigning a different meaning.
