Using Visualization to Create Inspiration and Balance in Your Life

Trust your intuition and use visualization techniques to discover answers to your questions.
I started a conversation recently about the world of technology and how we rely on the Internet in our daily lives for entertainment, inspiration, information, and even meaningless chatter. As an artist and someone who occasionally looks for inspiration, it is almost too easy to get sidetracked by all the content available on the web and social media these days. One thing I have learned about myself is that once I get sucked in, I lose my mojo to create and my creative muse seems to disappear. I start to lose balance in my life because too much time is spent in the online world.
So I started to ask some questions. As creative beings, what if we chose to allow ourselves only 15, 20 or 30 minutes a day online total? How do you think your life would change? What if you set a timer for 10-15 minutes? Do you think you could find what you are looking for in terms of inspiration? I bet you could.
Let’s take this concept for a moment and really imagine this in our daily lives. Let’s try an exercise.
Visualize if you will one topic or thing you would like to learn more about or get visual clues from. Chances are you probably already have some idea about what it looks like, feels like, its concept or meaning. Now what if you took that notion before you explored it online? Close your eyes if it helps and visualize deep within yourself this thing you have chosen. Can you sense and feel its nature? Take a few moments and give yourself permission to let it in.
If you are an artist, try this same exercise again now looking inside yourself for color inspiration in your art.
What if you did this small exercise before exploring online? Chances are that your search criteria will be smarter. Chances are that you will find the inspiration or information faster. Chances are you might not even need to set that timer. You may even find that you don’t need to go online at all!
This is just one example of a way you could approach topics before diving into the online world. We all need balance in our lives and with balance comes self-love. Without balance, we risk falling off the edge of our intuition which is the one place we are always sure to find solid ground. Our intuition gives us inspiration, it gives us confidence, and it shows us our truth. When we trust it, we are cultivating self-love because self-love includes honoring yourself and how you spend your time.
I am a big fan of finding inspiration online and I am not suggesting that we completely let go of it. There are many wonderful things that you can discover, and wow is it a great way to network! What I am suggesting here is that as creatives we ponder, contemplate and look inside to see if how we are choosing to spend our time is of value to us in that moment and in our lives. We may just find that we need a little more self-love and balance and a lot less time in the online world.
Here are some additional deeply intuitive questions to explore within yourself. Be truthful in your answers and take note the shifts that take place in your life if you choose to implement some of these ideas.
What if I didn’t go online today at all? What if I didn’t go online for 2 days, 3 days or more? What could I accomplish, or do for myself during that time?
What would I miss if I did not go online today, truly?
What are some other ways I can create more balance in my life?
What would my life look like in complete balance? (Get creative: write it, draw it, color it, sketch it, make a list, create a diagram or a vision board!)
Who are the cheerleaders in my life that support and encourage me?
