The more I learn...

Most believe that once we make more money, then we will be happy. In fact, happier work environments are more productive environments.
The more I learn, the more I learn how little I know. — Socrates
As I start my new venture, I am struck by:
• How many ways there are to communicate similar/related ideas: happiness, well-being, culture, values, empathy, compassion, etc.
• How many different ways for leaders to describe the issues they want to address: motivation, engagement, customer service excellence, culture, etc.
• How many different approaches can be used to address the issues: facilitated workshops, 1 on 1 coaching, training, mentoring, incentive programs, bonuses, books, TED Talks, etc.
• How many ways there are to measure the results of improvement efforts: pre and post questionnaires, customer satisfaction/net promoter scores, revenue, etc.
I am excited by the challenges ahead in working with clients every step of the way to accomplish both the individual and organization’s goals — increased enjoyment of work and increased profits. Research shows that commonly held wisdom is wrong. Most believe that once we make more money, then we will be happy. In fact, happier work environments are more productive environments. Happier work environments have lower absentee/illness levels. Honestly, so much of this is almost too obvious. But the fact remains that the majority of workers do not feel inspired or engaged at work and the key is to help leaders understand that they can change this. It is possible.
