Understanding Commitment

If you are not reaching your goals, it is possible you do not fully understand what commitment actually means.
What is it that makes some people able to follow through on their commitments and others do not? When a person begins to form an idea of something they want to accomplish, this is the beginning stage of accomplishment. But accomplishment cannot take place without commitment. The one thing that most people do not understand about commitment is that it is not based on feeling. The feeling of wanting to accomplish, of course, is important and what follows the thought of the idea. But what happens when we have feelings of fatigue, anxiety or other negative emotions that get in the way of accomplishment? So what is the one key ingredient toward accomplishment? It is making a “firm decision” to go forward with our plan, no matter what. Once that decision is made, we will forge ahead regardless of setbacks, to achieve our goal. So comprehending that accomplishments are made not by our daily feelings but by our decision to accomplish, we will not wait for that elusive moment in time when we will always “feel like” or “have some magical inner strength” to accomplish our goal. We can simply “decide” what we want to accomplish and move forward.
