Taking Action from a place of Passion

The world is desperate for positive change and I believe it is important for all of us to take a stand for something that we feel passionate about.
This summer I went camping with my two boys and our friends in the Caramanah valley. The Camarnah Valley is a Provincial Park on the southern end of Vancouver Island BC, and the home of the tallest recorded Sitka Spruce tree in the world. It is absolutely stunning.
On the way to Caramanah we went past many clear cuts and second and third growth forests, which are a common site on Vancouver Island. Just before entering the park we drove through a long stretch of freshly cut forest.
However, as we walked down into the valley it was like walking into a magical world. The trees were majestic and the sunlight was playing with the lush shades of green all around us. We spend most of our time exploring the trails and hanging out on the quaint pebble beach, resting against gnarly old driftwood and playing in the clear water of a river slowly meandering it’s way through the valley towards the ocean. It was as if time had stopped and we were wrapped into a peaceful dream.
This land would have been logged if it had not been for Randy Stoltmann and his love for nature. Randy felt a deep spiritual connection in the cathedral of the wild and he dedicated most of his short life taking a passionate stand to protect BC’s ancient forests and mobilizing others to support him in his efforts.
A young girl whose parents were part of the crew putting in a trail system to raise the profile of this land also felt a deep connection to this land. She wondered what she could do to protect it from being logged. She was only 5 years old at the time. In a moment of despair she decided to leave a piece of wood with her name underneath one of the mother trees, in the hopes that loggers seeing it wouldn’t cut down her tree. When she came back to her surprise she found name signs “claiming” a tree from people all over the world. Undoubtedly her little act of activism helped to finally protect the Calamanah Valley in 1990.
Why am I sharing this with you?
Because I believe it is important for all of us to take a stand for something that we feel passionate about. And even if you don’t know how you can change something or make a difference – just start to take one little step towards your passion.
When you take action from a place of passion opportunities will present themselves, doors will open that previously were closed and you will find your supporters along the way.
