Hello World - Here's My LinkedIn Story

Everyone has something or someone that comes along and changes the trajectory of their career. My something was LinkedIn. Here's my story...
In February 2014, when one of my doctors said that my issues were stress related, some tough choices appeared in my immediate future. Fifteen years of traveling and my fast-paced lifestyle finally caught up with me. So, the first thing I needed to change was going to be my work environment.
I was a passive user of LinkedIn up until that point, but made the risky decision to do my entire job search here and not on any other job sites. Going from passive to obsessed didn’t take long, but neither did the phone calls and job interviews. Those interviews led to offers.
My career coach told me a year ago that I needed to work on building my network if I wanted my career to move forward. I thought he meant by attending every networking event in my area and handing out business cards for a few hours. But, after learning how to make the best of it, I found that using LinkedIn to connect with people got me far better results, in far less time (and was far more fun).
In addition to helping in my job search, LinkedIn was the catalyst behind the birth of my coaching business. Going out on my own and starting a business was not even a thought in my mind 60 days ago. But now, it’s close to launching and there are already clients in line.
It makes me happy when I get to help someone else learn the benefits of using LinkedIn. To see their worlds open up with possibilities the way that mine did is extremely rewarding. Most people I’ve talked to recently are passive users, like I was in February. But, when I tell them my story, they become interested. And before long, they are aggressive users.
Just yesterday, I spoke with a group of 12 B2B salespeople. When I asked them if they use LinkedIn to engage their clients, only 4 people raised their hand. But, by the time I finished giving them my elevator pitch, heads were nodding and people were downloading the mobile app. By the end of the day, 9 of them connected with me and several inquired about ways to adjust their strategy.
If you’re trying to do anything, be anything, start anything, or sell anything, it’s silly not to incorporate LinkedIn into your strategy. The ROI is so worth the daily investment you’ll make in your livelihood. The very fact that you’re reading my content right now when I just became a habitual user only a few months ago, is proof.

Happy Linking…
