5 simple things you can do right now, that will help you get yourself back to operating at peak efficiency.
The entrepreneurial roller coaster has it’s own unique challenges, and one of the most common is stress overload.
Debt anxiety, fear of failure, and irregular paychecks frequently lead to long hours, poor sleep habits, irritability, and the breakdown of important personal relationships.
Some of the by-products of this stew are reduced productivity, depression, procrastination, and general weariness from carrying the burden of your business on your increasingly slumped shoulders.
Sounds like a recipe for disaster, but it doesn’t have to be. In fact, here are 5 simple things you can do right now, that will help you get yourself back to operating at peak efficiency.
1. Revisit your plan. Have you veered of course from your original intentions? Have you failed to adjust for changing market conditions? These are generally solvable problems, but you must address them head on, rather than sweep them under the rug.
2. Consult an expert. Do you have a client or mentor whose opinion you respect? Most people are genuinely eager to help. All you need to do is ask. They will be able to help you determine if your fears are real or manufactured.
3. Clean/reorganize your workspace. You may be the type who thrives in chaos and disarray, but organization requires order. You can let it return to a state of controlled messiness later, but while you seek to find a way out of your current state of anxiety, a clear place from which to think is essential.
4. Detach, relax, and get some sleep. Step away from the maelstrom and calm yourself down. Meditation is a great way to detach from the stress that controls you, and get present for the solution you seek. Or, you could just take a nap. That’s right. Even if you don’t have a couch in your office, you can dim the lights, close your eyes, and let your mind rest. If you fall asleep, great. If not, simply let your breathing soothe you. If you’ve been burning the candle at both ends, give yourself a break and get some sleep. Sleeping in is not a sin. Neither is going to sleep early. How about being really nice to yourself and doing both??!!!!
5. Get some exercise and watch your diet. I’m not about to write a diet book or tell you to cut out the soda and eat your vegetables, but I am going to remind you that you are what you eat, and I don’t think you really want Cap’n Crunch making the big decisions for you. Exercise doesn’t have to be a killer spin class or mind numbing weightlifting. Something as simple as a regular walk can do wonders for your overall mental attitude.
So, show yourself some love, and get back to doing what you inspired you to start your business in the first place!
