Fear is debilitating. Fear is exhausting. Fear is the antithesis of freedom. Fear limits you in every way possible. When you conquer your fear you conquer yourself.
The one commonality we all share is that we are all afraid of something, whether it be rational, irrational or self-imposed. Self-imposed fear stems from our own insecurities and perceived inadequacies. It literally can stop us from achieving happiness and pursuing our goals and dreams. How many times have you not done something because you are afraid? Afraid you won’t be good enough. Afraid you’ll look like a fool. Afraid it wouldn’t be as good as you anticipate. Afraid you won’t fit in. Afraid you’ll fail. Afraid it will upset the balance you work so hard to maintain in your life. It doesn’t matter what the situation, your fear can hold you back. You could be fearful of meeting new people, trying a new activity, standing up for yourself, traveling to an unknown place. It could be anything. Most of us are inclined to shy away from things that are uncomfortable or unknown. But why? If you don’t try, you’ll never know what there is to gain. Just as if you don’t ask, the answer will always be no.
Fear is a dark veil we use to hide our desires. It allows us to stay in a safe, familiar place, even if that place is not where we want to be. It serves as an excuse to keep us from living. I would much rather face my fears head on and fail then succumb to a life built around fear. Imagine if you were never afraid all the wonderful things you would do. Step into your life and away from your fear!
10 Ways to Overcome Your Fear:1. Do things that frighten you repeatedly – facing your fear disarms your fear. If you keep doing it soon you won’t remember what you ever were afraid of.
2. Relax and breath – Taking deep breathes calms you down and allows you to center yourself.
3. Focus on the moment – Concentrate on being brave for 30 seconds then move on to the next 30. It’s all about baby steps.
4. Fear is an illusion – Instead of filling your head with the bad stories or images, fill it with the good ones.
5. Fake it – Your mind is powerful but it can be tricked. Keep telling yourself “I can do this. I am stronger than the fear.”
6. Positive thoughts – It’s all about positive thinking. Keep reaffirming that you will and can do this.
7. Talk about it with friends or family – Let them encourage you and remind you of your strength.
8. Remember all the obstacles you have already overcome, all the things you have already achieved. Use that energy to garner the courage to face your present fear.
9. Face your fear head on – Be courageous. View courage as a muscle that continually needs to be strengthened.
10. Be vulnerable – Pinpoint your fear, address the armor your using to protect yourself from it, then open yourself up to the vulnerability by exposing your armor.
You will never do anything in this world without courage, and you will never face anything in this world without fear. Let your courage mask your fear. Fear is only as strong as you allow it to be. Give the power to YOU not fear!
