Three simple, scientific steps towards restructuring your perception of problems and solving them much more effectively.
We assume everybody has problems and they are just a part of life, that’s true in one sense and completely false in another. It’s all down to the perspective you choose. Here’s three simple, scientific steps towards restructuring your perception of problems and solving them much more effectively.
1. Assume a beginner’s mind:
The key to solving all my problems is to stop creating them. I achieve this by letting go of right/wrong, good/bad dichotomy-based judgments or thoughts and greeting everything I experience as a gift – A chance to access and apply my inner resources, create value and make a difference. As best-selling personal development author John Kehoe put it:
“Every ‘problem’ is an opportunity”
2. Identify untrue limiting assumptions you are making:
“The key obstacles in our work and life nearly always originate from an untrue limiting assumption sitting in our thinking.” Nancy Kline
As soon as we let go of judgments and stop over identifying with ‘good’ experiences and pushing away ‘bad’ experiences our thinking becomes clearer and we are able to identifying the false beliefs and expectations we have about whatever problem we are attempting to overcome.
Designed by Nancy Kline over the course of 30 years of research, the most effective tool to achieve this is called a Thinking Partnership.
3. Act from a place of intention
As Rumi once wrote
“Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and right-doing there is a field, I’ll meet you there.”
When I have let go of judgements and identified the limiting assumptions I am making, I am free to make more liberating assumptions and to act from a place of intention opposed to reaction (attachment or aversion).
A positive intention is an act of integrity in action. To be in integrity with myself is to act in congruence with my core values and take a conscious step toward the realisation of my vision. Whatever feedback, rewards or consequences that may arise as result offer me invaluable data on the impact of that intention.
If you think I may be able to help you with some of the challenges you’re facing, then why not contact me for an informal discussion. There’s no commitment, and I won’t try to push you into a sale – we’ll just discuss your situation to see if working together might be a good fit.
