If you have sent out hundreds of resumes but received few responses, it's time to rethink your job search strategy. Here are two ways to get unstuck!
Are you feeling stuck at your job search? Have you sent out hundreds of resumes but received few interview invitations? If you are encountering difficulties getting “back in the game”, here are two ways that you can get unstuck in your job search.
1. Become an independent consultant
If you have decades of industry-specific experience, ask yourself, “Do I have valuable skills that others will pay for?” Although your past employer may no longer have the means (or will) to pay for your expertise, it doesn’t mean that there aren’t others who are willing to pay. For instance, ex-teachers may find a receptive private tutor market. Although your pay may not be as stable as it used to be, you may find independent consulting work quite lucrative.
2. Attend industry conferences and meet new people
Industry conferences are attended by companies that have products to sell and customers to meet. You can also potentially meet your future employer at an industry conference. Be sure to spend time in the Exhibit Hall to talk with companies that interest you. Attend all the networking events, and meet new people. You never know whom you might meet, who could be your future colleague!

We all have skills that are valuable in the marketplace. The key is finding a way to get to companies that value them. Use the above ideas to get your job search out of the “Stuck” mode!
