What is a life coach and what do you do…you ask? A life coach is just that….a coach who helps you through the issues of life to include personal relationships, professional relationships and development and parenting just to name a few. You would hire a personal trainer to teach you how to work your body to get into the best shape of your life and you know it’s going to involve sacrifices and plenty of hard work to reach your goals. Life coaching is similar in that you will work your mind and make some sacrifices and changes to get the desired results you want while reaching your personal goals.
If you’ve always had a dream to do or be something other than what you are currently doing and you don’t know what’s stopping you, but something keeps getting in your way, then it’s time to find a good life coach to get you back on track. Your life coach should have overcome many of their own obstacles in life and have a great track record for success in their own lives.
Life coaching is a gift and though anyone can call themselves a life coach, not everyone is a great coach. Your coach should be teaching you new ways of thinking and seeing outside of the box as well as getting out of your comfort zone and gaining skills and techniques that will change your life. If you have roadblocks and traps that you fall into then the coach should identify them and help you avoid them in the future. The methods and techniques you learn should be unique to you and your personality and not some one-size-fits-all solution to your issues.
Life coaching is not to be confused with counseling. If you are struggling with substance abuse or addiction then a life coach will refer you to professional services for counseling. You need to be in a healthy mental state to obtain services from a life coach. If life coaching is not something you can do right now because you are in need of professional help then keep in mind that it can be something you work towards in the future. You must learn to crawl before you can walk or run and there is so much to be gained in the process.
Many coaches have a special niche and mine happens to be personal and professional development for the individual. I have a rare gift of putting people at ease and making them feel comfortable to open up to me. I also coach leaders in leadership positions and those who are transitioning from entry level to management positions. My scope of coaching includes personal and professional coaching, relationship coaching, entrepreneurial coaching, money management, parenting, career transitioning and many more. If it pertains to an aspect of your life then I coach it!
