Simple Solution: Name Your Space

Overwhelmed and anxious? Try naming your space!
When my chatterbox (aka, mind) is particularly overwhelmed and anxious, one of the most potent questions I ask myself is, “Where am I?”
And I don’t mean that existentially. I mean it 100% literally.
Simple Solution: Name Your Space
The next time you’re stressed and struggle to think straight, close your eyes, take a breath, and ask yourself, “Where am I?” Name the environment and note what you see, smell, taste, hear, and can tangibly touch. This simple act of focusing your senses grounds you in the present moment, providing both a respite from obsessive worry and overthinking and, also, a feeling of being relaxed and at ease. Added bonus: after doing one of these checks, you may be able to more clearly see the cause of the stress and identify some simple steps to solve it.
