5 REASONS WHY YOU NEED A LIFE COACH

Don't waste your time chasing after what you love. Focus on loving what you are best at and making a dent in the universe as only you can.
Rob Asghar, a contributor to Forbes Magazine, writes in his article “Five Reasons to Ignore the Advice to Do What You Love,”
“Admit it. You live in a society that reveres the perspectives of Joseph Campbell and Steve Jobs. You’ve been told that, if you do what you love, the money will follow. You’ve been told that, if you find your bliss, world-changing success will magically come. You’ve been told that, if you’re not changing the world in dramatic ways, it’s because you’re too afraid to find your passion and follow it. There are five reasons to end your personal guilt trip.”
Asghar goes on to list the five reasons to not necessarily do what you love: 1. Most gifted people don’t have one overriding passion; 2. The money just might not follow, 3. The search for one’s passion can be a distraction from living in the present, 4. Your bliss can become hell once it becomes a job, and 5. Steve Jobs didn’t follow his own advice.
It’s an interesting article.
I would like to use Asghar’s five points to suggest why you might want to find a good life coach.
1. Life coaches help you focus on what makes you unique. Asghar, in his article, comes around to saying this is what we should focus on anyway. Asghar references author Cal Newport’s book So Good They Can’t Ignore You when he says “…it’s better to identify which skills you have that could be rare and valuable in the workplace – and then to hone those skills till you have career capital that you can spend in the way you choose.” Why is this important? Because often, people spend too much time chasing too many rabbits down too many rabbit holes and not enough time developing a few good and rare life skills that are unique to them.
2. Life coaches help you figure out your priorities. We can help you figure out what is most important to you, including how much money you need to be happy, among many other priorities.
3. Life coaches help you live in the present. Through a structured process of setting goals and working toward those goals with accountability, you can keep your eye on the dream and at the same time build a foundation under the dream, including what you are doing today to make that dream come true.
4. Life coaches help you set healthy boundaries. Often times, especially in the digital age, it is difficult to set boundaries between what is work and what is play. This is partly because with the advent of devices like cell phones, you can be plugged in to work all the time. People therefore expect you to be available at all times. A good coach can help you set healthy boundaries in this and many areas of your life. And finally,
5. Life coaches help you develop a personal vision. You don’t need to be Steve Jobs to make a dent in the universe.
