Changing Careers? Dare To Take a Bold Stand

Achieving the future of your dreams begins when you declare that it will be reality. Declare and Fulfill!
Are you feeling stuck with your current job or career choice? It no longer holds your interest or challenges you? Perhaps the move to the next level is blocked or there is no clear path upward or onward. You start your day with a sense of dread and vow to do something. You are ready to make a change.
Rather than taking the traditional approach of searching job boards and contacting recruiters for open positions that appear to be a path to a more fulfilling and lucrative future, here is an alternate route to consider. Take some time to consider your ultimate destination, your vision of the future. Be very clear about it. Then make a declaration that this is your future. Be bold. You do not need to know how to get there right now. But what you do need for success is a commitment to move the declared possibility to a reality.
Once you have taken a bold stand and declared your impossible future, here are some things to consider to propel yourself forward, build momentum and be successful. Begin to think proactively – to be responsible for your thoughts and behaviors. Take actions to move yourself forward and do not allow yourself to get stopped by interpretations, by what you think is going on in someone else’s head. Have you noticed that many of your negative thoughts are based upon interpretations rather than fact? For example, you may be thinking that you are not the right person for the job, you don’t belong, don’t fit-in, made a mistake, etc. Ask yourself: Is this a fact, or is it just my interpretation? Ignore interpretations or take an action to turn the interpretation into a fact. Determine your next action based only upon what you know, what happened (i.e. the facts) and identifying what’s missing. Move forward with action that will generate vitality and positive self-talk.
Don’t get distracted with the blame or complain game. Don’t channel your energy into explaining how things got to be the way they are and don’t waste time getting others to “buy in” to how bad things are and confirming that you are doing your best. Always move forward. Be responsible and choose to be the source of your own results.
What action do you take when your declaration is bold and you don’t know where to start? Consider these first steps:
• Share your vision.
• Enroll one talented person.
• Meet with one key influencer.
Identify people in your personal network that can be a resource – who do they know, what do they know, how can their success help you? Share your vision and ask for their insights for moving forward. Continue in action with this process. Seek to enlarge your circle of influence – people who can help you move forward by increasing your knowledge, increasing your network, or providing additional resources. Opportunities will develop from this process.
Throughout the process, stay focused on your bold stand – your impossible future. Reinforce this with powerful self-talk. It will not be realized without commitment, belief and action. Declare it to be your future and you will be successful in fulfilling it. Without this bold declaration and focus, you might find that your career path moves in smaller steps toward the next appealing job opening rather than leaping to the target of your dreams.
