Is it ever OK to make a so-so job application?

Conventional wisdom has it that when applying for a job, we should do our absolute best, and really give it our all.
HERE’S ANOTHER WAY OF LOOKING AT IT
Who is more likely to get an interview…
…the woman who gave the application 80% of her all and sent it in on time,
…or the woman who did loads of research and many re-writes until her application reads perfectly, but then she realizes she’s missed the deadline?
“IMPERFECT ACTION BEATS PERFECT INACTION”
I thought this quote came from NLP founders Richard Bandler and John Grinder, but a look online says it’s maybe Harry Truman. Whoever wrote it, I love it!
WHAT CAN THIS QUOTE TEACH US ABOUT JOB-HUNTING?
By all means write thorough job applications, just remember that:
no-one is perfect,
nothing is perfect,
and often the absolute best you can do, is make sure that a job application that’s “good enough” actually gets sent on-time to a great employer.
Wishing you all success with your job-hunt.
