When was the last time you lost your cool? I mean a Major Freak Out!
How did you feel afterwards? Angry, upset, confused, ridiculous… apologetic?
Over the years, I’ve learned methods to keep my cool when the going gets tough. Due to the fact that I’m a real person with real feelings, I know anything could happen at any given time. Although, reminding myself of these 4 simple mantras makes it a lot easier to just go with the flow.
1. Just Breathe:Keep yourself from reacting too quickly & saying something you might regret by breathing in deeply and letting it go. Really feel every space within your lungs and give yourself time to process what’s happening.
This method truly helps to keep me from putting my foot in my mouth! When I can just take the time to breathe and chill out, it really helps me to choose my words carefully and put everything into perspective.
2. Keep it Real & Short:
Sometimes when your upset, you don’t feel like talking. You just want to relax the issue instead of irritate it further. One way I have found to calm down a situation is to just keep it real and keep it short. It usually goes something like this: “Hey, I’m just too upset to talk about this right now. Do you mind if we discuss this later?”. Once you have got yourself together, you can come back to the situation in a different mindset and hopefully with a different attitude.
3. Just Walk Away:
Easier said than done huh? But honestly, choosing to walk away from something or someone who is about to cause you a major freak out is really that simple.
I’ll admit, choosing to walk away is actually the toughest for me but there have been so many times in my life where I wished I would have just ran for the border and gotten myself out of there!
4. Don’t Take Anything Personally:
This is actually the toughest one for many of us to wrap our heads around but it’s the most helpful reminder on this list. Once you can start to master the art of just brushing things off your shoulder, you’ll avoid the freak out and keep your cool like a Pro.
