The number one New Year’s Resolution is to lose weight. Why you are doomed to fail. Learn the five reasons diets don't work.
Why your Weight Loss New Year’s Resolution will fail
The number one New Year’s Resolution is to lose weight. Getting healthy and fit is one of the best gifts you can give yourself for life. The reality is that 50% of you with that goal will give up on that resolution by Valentine’s Day. Only 8% of you will reach your weight loss goals. Here are the three most common reasons that weight loss New Year’s Resolutions fail:
1. You take action and start a fad diet instead of adapting a system for lifestyle changes
2. You have not included exercise or your exercise program is not realistic to sustain
3. There is no support system to help you monitor, adjust and stay focused on your goals
Why Diets Fail
1. Yo Yo dieting- you start and stop a new diet monthly. The new fad may work for losing weight- what they do not do is help you keep it off. Most people gain back the weight and more after stopping this kind of unbalanced eating program. What works is changing your lifestyle step by step to incorporate healthy foods that you can eat and enjoy for life.
2. Crash Dieting- you get discouraged by lack of progress and get drastic by eating little or nothing. This method wreaks havoc with your metabolism and your body goes into survival mode- which means you burn very little fat at all.
3. Sedentary lifestyle- Exercise is a critical part of getting to your weight loss goal. The recommended amount is 150 minutes a week, which is 30 minutes a day 5 days a week.
4. Garbage in- High fat, highly processed food all contribute to a situation where we are overfed and undernourished. We over eat, yet what we are eating does not provide basic nutritional needs for healthy living. Many of the most common diseases are linked to poor eating habits.
5. Chronic stress- stress factors that you might notice are lack of sleep, food cravings, lack of energy. Stress reduces your ability to make the behavior changes required to change your lifestyle to support your health and fitness goals
Set yourself up for success in 2014. Plan first, prepare for a change, consider all options and take one step at a time while you monitor the results.
Get support for your weight loss goals. Talk to a coach, join a group, monitor your progress and celebrate each day that you make healthy choices. Consider a well-balanced lifestyle change program like Transitions weight loss solutions.
