Do you invest in yourself?

Learn to invest in yourself, emotionally, financially and spiritually.
I thought this was a fitting first blog post for the launch of my new website. It is a concept I had never really thought about until I took a business coaching course this spring. One day the coach had said, “What is more important than investing in yourself?” A light bulb went off for me when I heard this. It was so true. I had put off investing in myself for years until now. I thought I would be able to work out my life issues on my own like so many people do. Why did I decide now to finally start to invest in myself? Because I was in a really bad place. I was what you would call ‘a real mess’.
I had just ended a four year relationship which resulted in my self-esteem becoming nearly non-existent, I had a lot of fear around how I was going to survive financially, what I wanted to do with my life, where I wanted to live and how I was going to get back on my feet again. A friend of mine told me I should consider seeing a life coach. I had heard of life coaches before and thought I would try it. I did some research and contacted a life coach and did the sample 30 minute call. I felt so much better after just that one call. After further counselling, I began to feel positive about my life again, have some tools to use to help my self-esteem, get my life back on track and to move forward in a better frame of mind. I began to put ‘investing in myself’ as the top priority in my life.
My ‘investing’ consisted of enrolling in a business coaching course to promote and market my fine art photography business. I also ‘invested’ in the book called ‘Calling in the One’ by Katherine Woodward Thomas. Its premise is that you must love yourself first before you can love someone else, another concept I ‘invested’ in. Along the way, I came across creative life coaching. The light bulb lit up again. This is what I had been searching for my entire life as a career and I ‘invested’ in my happiness and my future by taking the certification course.
Now almost a year after ending my relationship, I have now completed my life coaching and practitioner certification and am feeling better than I ever have in my life. I see a future of happiness and hope. I have also learned the value of investing in myself financially, emotionally and physically. I wish you all believe that you are worth investing in yourself. I know you are.
