Reflections of a Coach

Personal struggle turns into a successful adventure.
A couple of weeks ago my daughter invited me over to see her new house and possibly do a couple of work projects for her. With some reluctance I went, not because I did not want to spend time with her. It was simply the thought of doing work projects I was not that excited about. I arrived last week planning on staying just a few days. The second day there I decided to look for her water shut-off valve which I found under the house. As I was looking at, it I heard the dreaded sound that brings fear to any home owner, drip, drip, drip, drip, drip… It wasn’t a slow drip either, which put me in a bit of a panic.
I have worked on a couple of houses before, the thought of going down and looking for the source of dripping did not excite me in the least. This is my daughter’s first home, and she did not have any tools yet, not even a flashlight, so, I used the flashlight app on my phone and crawled in to see what was in store for us. I found it; it looked like a pipe was leaking. I followed it up from the floor to narrow down the real source for a plumber to fix it. He showed up that afternoon and narrowed it down to the water heater which was leaking, and it had been for a while, so the floor was soft. Not good, to say the least. Being that it was so late on a Friday, we scheduled to replace it on Monday, which would give me a chance to check out the floor.
I woke up Saturday morning and began digging at the floor only to find the boards where ruined; one of them was coming from the other room and was supporting a portion of the furnace. The more I looked at the project the more I felt concerned and worried for my daughter. I felt like this project was way out of my league. All I wanted was for someone else to come over and fix it for us, but money was a factor, so I had this pit in my stomach coming from a place where I wanted to give up, but I knew that was not a possibility. We could not find anyone to look at the floor until that evening. The neighbor came over and talked me through the project. To save my daughter some money she looked at me and said we can fix it. Well three days later, four days of cold showers, and a sore back, we got a new floor and new water heater.
The point for sharing such a lengthy story is this reminds me of people I coach; people who at times feel overwhelmed for the moment. It is such a paralyzing feeling. Then all of sudden we find someone who helps us work through the project and it no longer looks so overwhelming. My daughter’s next door neighbor, without him using the term, became my coach. He talked me through the process.
What a powerful reminder that each of us can have from time to time have challenges or opportunities where we feel stuck, overwhelmed, or we simply want someone else’s perspective; this is what a coach can provide for you. To accomplish this task for my daughter was a great feeling. To have a friend come along and help me see things from a different perspective was a great gift as well. It is amazing what we can accomplish if we are simply willing to ask for help or guidance and look at things from a different perspective.
Give us a call you never know what you can accomplish.
Blessings!
