Many people think that if they could add some things to their life, they would be happier. The truth is, you have to take some things away. Here are 10 Things to Give Up if You Want to Be Happy:
1. Give up the self-defeating talk. The outer limit of your potential is determined solely by your own beliefs and your own confidence in what you think is possible. You begin to fly when you let go of self-limiting beliefs and allow your mind and aspirations to rise to greater heights.
2. Give up the past. When the door of happiness closes, another opens…but we spend so much time looking at the closed door that we cannot see what is readily available to us.
3. Give up your need to always be right. What good does it do anyway? No one cares. Sometimes it’s better to just remain quiet and listen. Maybe you will learn something new.
4. Give up your resistance to change. One of the keys to success is continuous personal change. Personal change is a reflection of our inner growth and empowerment.
5. Give up your excuses. The only thing standing between you and your goal is the story you keep telling yourself as to why you can’t achieve it. Take responsibility and accountability.
6. Give up your need for control. How would your life be different if you stopped worrying about things you can’t control and started focusing on the things you can? Let today be the day…free yourself from fruitless worry, seize the day and take effective action on things you can change.
7. Give up complaining. As a strategy, complaining does not work. We all have finite time and energy. Any time we spend whining is unlikely to help us achieve our goals. And it won’t make us any happier.
8. Give up on your fears. Facing your fears robs them of their power. Have the courage to take risks. Go where there are no guarantees. Get out of your comfort zone even if it means being uncomfortable. The road less traveled is sometimes fraught with barricades, bumps, and uncharted terrain. Have the courage to accept that you’re not perfect — and that’s OK.
9. Give up living your life to other people’s expectations. Don’t let others determine your worth. Your greatness is revealed not by the lights that shine upon you, but by the light that shines within you.
10. Give up blaming others. Yes, there are times when something is legitimately not our fault. Blaming others, however, keeps us in a stuck state and is ultimately rough on our own self-esteem. Take accountability.
C’mon get happy!
