Your Write Life
“Happiness is not a state to arrive at, but a manner of traveling.” -Margaret Lee Runbeck
Do you find yourself longing for that perfect “If only…” moment when you can finally relax and be happy? It’s the perpetual “dangling carrot” of your mind . You know the kind of statements I’m talking about. They go something like this…
“If only my house was cleaner, then I could enjoy my day.”
“If only I got that raise, life would be so much better.”
“If only I was 10 (20, 30+) pounds lighter, things would be great!.”
If only… If only… If only…
Now, imagine choosing to love your life TODAY instead of waiting to have a life you’ll love someday. What if you brought your attention to the seemingly small, but perfect parts of your life that are taking place right now? All the many details that go unnoticed or unappreciated, but are there contributing quietly to your well-being without pomp and circumstance.
For me, these moments can be found in so many places: a big hug, a really funny joke, a great morning latte, lunch with a friend, the opportunity to do work I love with some really amazing individuals.
If you were to focus on the happiness available to you RIGHT NOW, what would capture your attention? Take the time to invite well-being into your world by noticing 5 things today, and each day this week, that contribute to happiness and meaning in your life. And if you want to step it up a notch, write it all down.
Here’s to a well loved week!
