Tell Yourself a New Message

Sometimes we take on pretty negative messages:
“I’m not smart (or attractive) enough”
“I’m not organized”
“I will never accomplish my goals”
Some of these messages we get from other people-family members, friends, others…and some we give ourselves, perhaps due to unreasonable expectations we have for ourselves or the messages we feel we’re getting from society. One frustrating thing about these messages is that they start defining who we are-instead of saying “I sometimes have a difficult time staying organized,” we say, “I’m not organized.” We take on one struggle as our identity. Have you ever heard someone diagnosed with bipolar disorder stating, “I’m bipolar?”—It’s the same thing-our weaknesses, our difficulties do not define us.
So my suggestion for you this week is to tell yourself a new message-if you find that you are telling yourself the lie of a negative message-replace it with a positive one!
“I’m intelligent and capable”
“People enjoy my company”
“Although I am facing a struggle, it can be overcome!”
