In todays fast paced world, the generating of ideas is crucial to adapting to change. Brainstorming is one tool to harness the power of ideas.
“Nothing is more dangerous than an idea when it is the only one you have.” – Emile Chartier
When’s the last time you sat with another person or a group of people and let ideas fly? Brainstorming is a valuable tool in business and in life. I use brainstorming as a business leader and a coach and its one of my favorite tools. When change becomes important, brainstorming generates confidence to move forward in the goal setting process.
When’s the last time you used brainstorming to get unstuck? Simply put, brainstorming is a fast paced exchange of possibilities. To have effective brainstorming, it is important to: clarify the topic, defer judgment, encourage bold/wild ideas, set a minimum number of ideas, build on what others say, be visual and specific. Most importantly, go for quantity over quality and go for speed.
In the brainstorming process, we let our critical brain rest and embrace the creative nature of future possibilities. With new possibilities, we are energized and begin to see a better future. At this stage, goals that may have seemed impossible become possible.
Energize your life at work and home by overcoming obstacles through brainstorming.
