Your New Passion

What are you passionate about? What is it that you stand up for, defend, and believe in no matter what? There's one passion you probably forgot.
What are you passionate about? What makes you feel truly alive? Passion is defined as “any powerful or compelling emotion or feeling.” Many of us have our passions; the things that make us stand up or speak out when we otherwise would not.
But it hit me rather suddenly, this one concept, this one question that really got my mental juices flowing: Are you passionate about you?
You see, the things you are passionate about, you fight for; you stand up for; you believe in 100%. In this life, sometimes nice guys do finish last. It seems that at times, the nicer you are, the more people take advantage of you. You know what I am talking about if you can relate to the following: you tolerate that friend, co-worker, or loved one and their behaviors that drive you up the wall because you don’t want to cause any conflict. You wanted to set boundaries in your life, but kept putting them off because you don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. You keep doing things and moving in this life because you do not want to disappoint anyone or let anyone down.
You keep ‘taking it’ and the more you do, the more you take in. The result is you feel more stressed or frustrated. Eventually, it gets to the point you can’t take it anymore and one day, you burst! You snap at a loved one, you lose your cool at work, or you just break down crying because you spilled your dinner on the floor (yeah, I’ve been there).
Here is my challenge to you: be passionate about you. Don’t be afraid to stand up for, to fight for, or to believe in you. There is only one you; that means that only you can do what you do and only you can be who you are. You can’t do those things in life if you’re stressed, frustrated, sad, angry, or fed up. You can’t accomplish the great things in this life that you are meant to accomplish and achieve if you aren’t fighting for and believing in you. You’ll be too focused on those emotions that you miss out on opportunities.
The next time someone tries to take advantage of your kindness or good nature, or someone is putting you down for who you are or what you do, or you are lacking in confidence in your capabilities or a 100 other things, don’t be afraid to stand up for your newest passion: You.
“There is no passion to be found playing small – in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.” – Nelson Mandela
